I didn’t expect to get this fixated on one oddly shaped bathroom window but here we are. It's a pentagon shape (why? no one knows) and sits above the tub, which made it pretty much impossible to treat with normal blinds or curtains unless I wanted mold and frustration. For a while I just taped frosted contact paper over it and tried to ignore the peeling edges. It was one of those things where every time I took a shower, I'd get mad at the window again. I wanted privacy, but still wanted the light — and honestly, I didn’t want to cover the cool shape completely. I looked into stained glass at one point but wow, that price tag shut that down fast. Eventually stumbled on the idea of using custom-cut film, and now I wish I’d done it months ago. I made a super simple geometric design based on the shape of the tile we used in the shower, uploaded it, picked a matte finish, and it came pre-cut to the exact wonky angles of the window. Applied it with some soapy water and a squeegee, and now it looks like it was always part of the design. It’s weirdly satisfying.

Oh man, I totally relate. We’ve got this long, narrow arch-top window in the stairwell that was always a weird one to deal with — too high for shades, but somehow still managed to flash sunlight directly into our faces while coming down the stairs. For the longest time we just left it bare, thinking it was "fine." But then once our toddler started walking up and down the stairs, I started noticing how distracted he’d get by the light bouncing everywhere — not to mention the fact that at night, with the hallway light on, you could see straight into the house from the street. We didn’t want to lose that natural light, but we definitely wanted to tone things down. I ended up finding https://applyityourself.com after someone in a parenting group casually mentioned it. What sold me was being able to upload our own design and actually have it cut to match the arch. I drew a little tree pattern with soft leaves (took me three tries but worth it), sent in the size, and the film came back ready to apply. Install was way less stressful than I expected. Just needed some water, a credit card, and patience. It’s been on for about 8 months and hasn’t budged — and I check every time I clean the window, lol.

Isn’t it wild how one weird shape in a wall can change how a room feels entirely? Like, it’s just a window — or it should be — but once you start thinking about how light lands or what’s visible at night, it suddenly becomes this puzzle you have to solve. Makes you notice things you never used to.

Interesting topic different shapes in Pokémon sunlight themes can indeed spark a mild obsession
