Best Tips for Train Travel Across the UK?
#1
I’m planning a trip around the UK and want to rely mostly on trains. Any tips for booking smart, avoiding delays, or getting the most out of the experience? Bonus points for scenic routes!

I travel between Cardiff and Manchester regularly. Off-peak tickets are way cheaper, and I’ve learned to avoid tight connections, delays happen. If you have flexibility, travel mid-morning or early afternoon. It’s quieter and more relaxed. Plus, the countryside views in Wales are worth grabbing a window seat for.

On a recent trip through Wales, I found train travel both beautiful and unpredictable. One connection got delayed, and I almost missed my event in Swansea. Luckily, I had the Transport for Wales phone number saved and was able to get updated routing advice on the spot. Pro tip: always check service alerts before heading out, especially if you're traveling on weekends or holidays. And while mobile tickets are super convenient, I still print one just in case signal drops in rural areas.
