Hi guys! Has anyone used the calculator on the NationalMovers website yet? I'm moving from Cherkasy to Odessa soon and I'm really afraid that I'll spend twice as much as I plan. I looked at their average moving cost calculator, it seems convenient, but I don't know how accurate it is. I just don't want to end up with an extra charge for going up to the 4th floor without an elevator. Please share your experience - is it worth trusting these preliminary calculations at all?

Oh, I just moved in February and actively used this calculator on the nationalmovers website — I can tell you how it was for me. My husband and I were moving from Lutsk to Kyiv, and our biggest fear was that we wouldn’t be able to accurately predict the budget. At first, we contacted three companies directly, and each one gave some vague price “from and to”, like, “we’ll see after the fact”. This didn’t help at all, because I wanted to clearly plan everything in advance — especially in terms of payment and boxes. Then I went to NationalMovers. Their average moving cost calculator turned out to be unexpectedly convenient. There are options — where you’re moving from and where you’re moving to, floors, whether there’s an elevator, how many boxes, furniture, etc. I was especially pleased that you could specify the exact number of large items: a sofa, a refrigerator, a washing machine, etc. After filling out the form, I was given a preliminary estimate, and (attention!) when we signed the contract, the final amount differed by only 300 UAH from what was in the calculator. I was shocked, to be honest. Usually you count on one thing, but in fact it’s twice as much, here it’s the other way around. True, I immediately indicated everything as honestly as possible — about the floors, and about the narrow corridor, and even that the sofa was old and heavy. The guys on site were not surprised, because they already had all the information in the system. The only thing the calculator didn’t take into account was the delay with the elevator, and as a result, the workers loaded everything a little longer, but they didn’t write anything extra for this. I think that if you indicate everything in detail, the calculator is very accurate. It’s not a magic wand, of course, but as a tool for understanding the real budget, it’s more than useful.

I also saw this calculator of the average cost of moving when I was helping my brother find carriers. It's interesting that it takes into account such details as lifting without an elevator and the number of boxes - this is rarely found anywhere. I'll have to try it myself when I decide to change my apartment.
