A custom tag/filter of player's pokemon collection?
#1
Hello. Appologies if it wasn't yet ok for a newbie like me to make such a heavy suggestions. But this is something I keep thinking about while trying to find a way around this limitation, since there's no build-in way to handle it.

Thing is, after awile in this game some (most?) players will end up with a bunch of excessive pets. Even a few of the same kind, but of different IVs and natures. Probably most of those were caught with a specific plan for it, or maybe just some vague thought, "just in case". Maybe you're looking for one to mega and collect whatever seems like potentially good to sort which one's the best later. Or maybe you want to sell a few with good IVs and natures out of those you don't need yourself. Some pokemon might be left as a placeholders, until you find a better match. Some stand out as a good potential pvp team candidate. Or those few favorites you usually use for hunting. It can be those few with extremely rare combination of stats you want to keep track of. Or maybe it just has an emotional value, like that one first ultra-rare you catch and don't want to get rid of even after you find a better one.

My point is, at some point it's getting really hard to navigate through the collection. To find what you're looking for among a few similar you own. You come to the shop and spend a lot of time opening each one manually to see if it's good to sell. Or, even worse, when you plan to go through arena trainers to quickly level a bunch of your folks, it turns out you spend more time finding what to level than you actually spend defeating trainers.

I tried to find a way around this by using the custom name field to tag them with something like a simple subjective 1-to-100 rating or something more specific like in this example (could be confusing at first glance, but that "name" just means what it's best to evolve into, then its nature rate 1-to-5, and then approximate rating of its IVs at my subjective opinion). But the problem is, you can only see the name after opening the details. You can't even filter them being filled or null.

So what can be done to fix this? Being a bit of a coder and a system design nerd myself, can think of a few options. Here's some ideas, but I can't say for sure whether any of it can be implemented or even worth it in first place. Starting from the simpliest in my opinion to more complex.
  • Make the custom pet name field filtrable (at least binary y/n), a-z sortable and, if possible, displayed in the list (at least in the tooltip over the species' name if there's too little space).
  • Add a preset few (10 or so) tags that can be applied to a pokemon's individual ID. Think of any photo organizer with its color tags as an example. Tags don't even need to be meaningful words, since people can come up with their own meanings. Any symbolic element like color, number, letter, etc will do.
  • Categories. Make a custom group name, place some pokes in it, then you can pick it from the dropdown to display only its content. Like that premade group thing, but not limited to 6.
  • Probably there are other ways, though, those are just the most distinct I could think of.
Anyway, I'm guessing if it's not implemented yet, that's probably not because no one thought of it before, but for more important reasons why it can't or shouldn't be done or not even needed enough. Don't take this suggestion too seriously. ^^

I like the detailed explanation and the idea.
Hope this can be discussed

I like the idea....i own a ev training buisness and sometimes i cant find the pokes i need to ev in all of my pokes Smile The second idea with colors or a picture next to the poke in your storage could work.

Well, in your storage you already have every way of Filtering stuff.
However, market certainly needs more ways of filtering those you wish to sell.
However, in market it Should not need to be via a tagging system, but via giving the same options as search trade / buy pokemon / storage got.

I'd suggest simply taking the same feature as encounters got.
That being taking the colors, and add them as a frame around the pokemon in storage etc.

Everything else seems rather bothersome and not that much time-saving.

Colored frames would work just as well, I think. As long as players can assign specific color frame to each pet's individual ID and then can filter/sort by whatever color frame it has, that'd be just fine.

New features for boxes are great.
Custom name/ nickname organizing not needed.
10 tags are too much. The iv and nature rating tags are enough.
Don't know about the groups thing, don't really need it.

Add a max ivs filter please. I want to find my really bad pokemon. and others might want to sell those. Or maybe a not feature which gives a list of all pokes not in the filter. Otherwise, the number of filters is already good. Just wish shop-offering, box, and pokedex all have the same filters... the inconsistency bothers me...

so you want something like creating custom tags and tagging any of your pokemon with these tags so you can filter? right?

can you visualize what you want

also tell me missing standard filters at the market where it is required

Yeah, that's pretty much what I mean.

I'm not too good at graphics and right now all I got here is good ol' Paint, but will try what I can.

First let's look at the details page:

It can be a bunch of radio buttons, mutually exclusive checkboxes or just a dropdown - doesn't matter. It doesn't have to be colors either (and surely not necessarily those specific colors - those are just random ones I took from paint default preset), but I'm going from it as an example.

Then the ManageMonstersStore.aspx page. Here's how it might look at default when no tag sorting applied, but "filter by name" shows only e.g. Axew:

Let's say, red ones were marked like that because they are really bad and are to be sold cheap or released. Green is pretty good and to be leveled and maybe sold or traded later. And the orange is just really awesome and is a keeper. Everything that has orange mark on it is to be EV trained and leveled with a prio. Those that aren't market are just not yet sorted or not important enough. Or maybe marks have a complete different meaning - that's up to the player who uses them (assuming no one else but the owner can see those marks anyway).

Now if we try to filter just the ones with specific tag, it may look like this:

Of course it doesn't have to be the square thingy around the pokemon's image, but that's first thing I could think of that wouldn't take any extra space while doing the job.

The dropbox doesn't have to be colored if it takes too much css job, I'm sure people can read well enough here.

Same way it can apply to the market page (the ones you post from).

Oh, and while I'm at all this drawing, this would also be useful, I think ^.^
[Image: 4.png]

Sometimes it's getting really hard to find where you've left all those exp shares and things you don't need on every pet you own for a long time. That could help to keep track of them.

Thanks for your time, whether you actually plan to implement anything of this kind or not. Smile
